New Affiliates Script

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

I just wanted to let all my affiliates know that I am changing how my affiliates are displayed on my site. Currently, I am using Enthusiast for my affiliates (because I had been using it previously, when my site was only a fanlisting collective). I discovered, a month or so ago, a script called Affiliationally. I currently use it for my Jake Epstein fansite affiliates and I like it. So I’ve decided to switch over to that so I can oranzie my affiliates into categories and add new links and affiliates without opening up my HTML editor and FTP client to add them.

I will let you know once I’ve finished installing the script and its all working with my current affiliates added.

Update (April 22/09 @ 1:34pm): The script is now up and running. Check it out here. Feel free to apply!

New Layout Coming Soon!!

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

I’m currently working on a new layout for Dreams and Destiny Collide! If all goes well, and my parents don’t come home and go on the internet on their computer, I should have the new layout up later tonight.

Also, just so you know, if  I put up the new layout and things aren’t working properly right away, just bare with me. I don’t like to close my sites when I put up new layouts so I’m planning to keep it open while I’m getting it going. It shouldn’t take too long for me to get everything working properly once I do put it up. But I won’t put it up until I have almost everything done on it. I’m just in the process of putting the colours into the stylesheet. Then, I should be done.

Welcome to Dreams and Destiny Collide

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

Ok, so this is my new domain, dreams-destiny.com. The plan for this new site is to be home for my blog, personal site type stuff, and my fanlistings. I’m sick of having all separate sites so I’m going to try and incorporate them together into one website. I’m blogging with WordPress, but I’m planning not to use WP for the pages of the site. Its too much of a pain when I want to redo the layout, and my fanlisting script (Enthusiast) that I use doesn’t exactly work alongside WordPress easily, as far as I know anyway. So all my pages, for now anyway will be manual HTML/PHP/CSS. I may eventually decide to go back to WP for the whole site but I don’t want to right now. Anyways, enjoy!

Update: All of my previous posts from my old blog have been imported. So, all posts that appear below this one are from my old blog and many of them are quite old.

New Host Good. Old Host Bad.

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

Ok, so I’ve been having issues with my web host, Bluehost, so I’ve been thinking about moving again. I talked to my friend Chris who has been with GoDaddy for a couple years and he’s really happy with their service.

I had avoided GoDaddy mainly because their website is very confusing. There is way too much going on, on the main page. I had also heard that they weren’t that great so I just never bothered.

My first webhost was Netfirms, and they were really good. Their servers had pretty much 0 downtime, but my problem with them was that if I wanted to get more stuff on my account I had to pay too much for it. But if you don’t need very much they are a really good company to go with and I definitely recommend them.

The reason I moved to BlueHost was because when I was in Multimedia at Lethbridge College, we had to have our own websites and our instructor wanted us to use them. So I transfered everything over to them. I’ve now been with them for almost a year. Here are the problems I’ve had with Bluehost:

  1. When using an FTP client on Mac OS X it will work for about two months and then I get errors all the time. So I switch to a different FTP client and it works for a couple months then the same thing happens. Now that I’ve run out of Mac compatible FTP clients I’m at a loss. Cyberduck will work off and on with Bluehost.
  2. I’ve had a lot of trouble with email as well. I know they’re just trying to make it more secure but setting up an email address to receive in an email POP client you have to change too many settings to make it actually work. And even then, you can’t be sure that it will actually work every time.
  3. It has fantastico deluxe for installing web applications but half of them don’t work. They later added Simple Scripts which has been much better, but still. I mean I can install those things myself because I did all the time on Netfirms. It’s no big deal, but having that kind of thing makes it much easier. Less hassle.

I know the last one isn’t really a big deal, its mainly the first two. So I’m testing out GoDaddy right with one of my domains. So far so good. Getting it transfered was a pain in the butt, but that was Bluehost’s fault, not GoDaddy’s. So if all goes well, which I’m thinking it will, I will be transfering the rest of my domains over in the next month.

Edit: Ok, so I just realized that I the transfer of the domain has not finished. I forgot that once you finish everything it has to be approved for it to officially move to the new host. It has to be done from the old host though and it still says that no transfer is pending. Fricken Bluehost!! ARG!!!! When I transfered from Netfirms to Bluehost it took all of like two minutes to do and get everything finished for all of my domains. I’ve been trying to do this one transfer from Bluehost to GoDaddy all fricken day.

New WP Theme

Friday, June 6th, 2008

I finally finished my WP Theme. I kept forgetting about it. But it’s up and running now.

There may still be some kinks though, so if you come across any problems please let me know.

I’ve tested it (so far) only on Mac OS X using: Flock version 1.1.4, Mozilla Firefox version 3.0, Safari version 3.1.1, and Opera version 9.24.

Themes and Layouts

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

I will probably have some crappy themes/layouts on here for a while because I have to make my own still. I haven’t had time with school and stuff to do a whole lot of anything but I promise I will actually make my own WP theme/layout for the new blog. It’s much more of a pain in the but to do it when you’re using something like WordPress, than if you’re not using any script or CMS at all. So hopefully soon! Most likely at the end of the month, after exams. In the mean time I will probably be switching it up with some downloaded WP themes.

New Domain Ideas

Friday, March 28th, 2008

I wanted to get my old domain back, but Netfirms seems to want to keep it, for some reason. It was supposed to expire in February and I went to check it a  few days after the expiry date and it had been renewed for another year. It didn’t show up on my Visa bill, which I would have been really mad about if it did because I’ve been away from Netfirms since September, I really wanted to get that domain back. But since my blog is starting to frustrate me with the domain thing and stuff (it’s having issues within my control panel mostly) I wanted to put my blog on a separate domain.

So, since I can’t get my old one back I started thinking about new ones. I did some searches to find if any of the ones I liked were being used. I really hate how some that aren’t being used are unavailable, its very frustrating. But here are two options that I’m considering:

  • softspoken.org
  • sweet-unknown.com

I had a whole bunch more that I checked out but these two are my favourites but I don’t know which one to get. Anyone have a preference?

Website Updates

Friday, February 29th, 2008

I’ve got a bit of stuff going on with my other websites right now:

  1. Portfolio » keirahenricks.com
I made a better layout for my portfolio, with just a Flash header (the full site was in Flash before). I still haven’t finished my portfolio though. I think now that the layout is more appealing, I will be more likely to finish it. My old layout was just not that appealing to me, which I believe to be a major factor in why I was having such a hard completing it.
  2. Fading Flowers Web Hosting » hosting.fading-flowers.com
Did a slightly newer version of the original layout. It used to be full page with but it now has a fixed width. I also made a Flash header. I’m not as pleased with it as I am with the one for my portfolio but it’s a little more appealing, but it works.
  3. Residual – Jake Epstein Fansite » jakeepstein.net
I am planning to open my Jake Epstein Fansite tomorrow, possibly tonight. I finally got it ready to be opened, after a couple months of not having time to do anything with it.

I think that’s all the major stuff that’s happening right now. I still need to get around to redoing some of my fanlistings because the layouts on some are quite old. Most from back when they were on my old domain, over a year ago. So I would say it’s definitely time for a change for them.

I was also having issues logging into my blog the last few days, but I’ve fixed it now, obviously. But yeah. I guess that’s all.
